2020 Caterham Motorsport - This Year's Champions!

2020 Caterham Motorsport - This Year's Champions!

Yes! That's the end of another year of epic Caterham racing, which means (1) it's not long until Christmas, (2) I'm A Celeb will be back on our boxes and (3) our team will already be working hard on planning next year's exciting season.   Before we hurtle into 2021, we're taking a look back at what is one of the most bonkers year of racing of all time.

Despite the restrictions and multiple lockdowns, the Motorsport Team did a great job of pulling off an entire season for all of our drivers.  It did mean there were a few combined grids here and there, and the odd back-to-back weekend - but the added pressure just made the racing all that more exciting.  In typical Caterham style, and much like some weird voting thing that happened in the US, the championship winners we're too close to call right up until the final moments.

Just before we get to the exciting bit, we'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to Simon, Kirsty, Darren and all of our technical team for another incredible year of motorsport, still running a full season of racing on a heavily condensed time scale.  Top notch work!  Plus, a massive thank you to all of our sponsors for supporting us through this season - we couldn't have done it without you.

Take a look below to see this year's winners, along with some interesting statistics...

2020 ACADEMY GREEN GROUP WINNER - TOM COCKERILL

Tom not only achieved the Number 1 spot overall, but managed to get three of the fastest laps all season.  Talk about doing it in style.  Anyway, with the Academy Championship being over and done with, it's now your turn to get behind the wheel, join the fun and become a racing driver - just click here.

2020 ACADEMY WHITE GROUP WINNER -  TAYLOR O'FLANAGAN

Ahh yes, this year's wonder boy.  Taylor is one of our youngest Academy competitors and certainly kept the competition entertaining. A strong contender with some tough competition from the likes of Hugo Bush, Simon Shaw, Dom Mannsperger and Mr JWW, who has been this year's media partner, providing a great insight into exactly what Academy is all about.  You can check out his content right here.

2020 ROADSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER - TOM WYLLYS

For those not familiar with Roadsport, this is the championship that bridges the gap between road cars and all-out racers.  It's the natural, and only official, progression step for those who have graduated from the Academy year.  Pretty much everyone who takes part in Academy can't get enough of the racing, so you'll find them here... or in the 270R championship

2020 MOTUL 270R CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER - LARS HOFFMANN

This year the racing couldn't have been closer if we tried, just look at the results.  Lars Hoffman, of Caterham Deutschland, has been crowned the 2020 MOTUL 270R Champion - and the final race was right down to the wire.  Lars also successfully achieve the most number of pole positions - check out his interview here to find out more about his season...

2020 310R CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER - GREG MONKS

If you thought the 270R results were close, then the 310R ones will blow your mind.  Greg snatched the victory on the last lap of the final race, at the time the results were too close to call on the overall winner.  This is also the first victory for Caterham Gatwick's very own race team.

2020 AVON TYRES SEVEN CHAMPIONSHIP UK - JOHN BYRNE

This result was pretty easy to call, given that John not only had the most number of poles, the highest number of fastest laps, but because he won nearly every single race he entered.  As you can see from the image above, he quite literally flew around every circuit.  A massive congratulations to the winner of the only (inhale) Official National Level Caterham Seven Championship.

All that's left to say is a big thank you all of our competitors for a great season, we look forward to seeing you all next year! Congratulations to all of our Champions!
