Introducing the new Seven 420 Cup

The best track-day Seven we’ve ever built. Need we say more?

If that isn’t enough of an introduction, you’d better read on to find out about the latest addition to the Caterham range. We’re proud to introduce the new Seven 420 CUP, a road-going, track-focused model inspired by our top-tier Seven Championship race car.

The thing is, this isn’t a new approach. In fact, motorsport has been quietly transforming every element of the Seven for decades. Improving everything from handling dynamics to mechanical durability. Motorsport is in our blood; it’s a world we know inside out.

The new 420CUP is born from this knowledge. We’ve taken the very best from racing and paired it with the usability found in our road-going Sevens.

At this point, you’re probably asking, where does this sit in the range then? The 420 CUP bridges the gap between the 420R and the Seven Championship Race Car, rather than the typical progression of vehicles that feature S and R packs.

POWER

The 420 CUP features a 2.0-litre Duratec engine producing 210bhp and 203nm of torque, the same as in our Seven 420. It also has a power-to-weight ratio of 375bhp-per-tonne…. but that’s where the similarities end.

Thanks to a new SADEV six-speed sequential gearbox, allowing for flat-shifting, 0-60 mph is dealt with in just 3.6 seconds (620R – 2.79 seconds, 620S – 3.4 seconds, 420R/S – 3.8 seconds).

All of that equates to a top speed of 136 mph. Those who care about driving know that the top speed doesn’t matter, what does matter is how you get there.

DYNAMICS

On each corner you’ll find brand-new, 10-stage, fully-adjustable dampers developed by Bilstein® - allowing drivers to set up a car perfectly for any road or circuit. Jointly created by Bilstein and Caterham, the hand-adjustable dampers are the first to feature on a Seven.

Next up, the tyres. For fans of our Seven Championship UK, you’ll know that they operate on bespoke racing slicks – pitching the 420 race car with lap times similar to BTCC racers, you know – proper serious stuff.

As standard, the 420 CUP comes with Avon Tyres ZZR tyres (or ZZS if you wish), but if you’re purely focused on lap times – the ZZR Extreme tyres are available as a dealer fit option. The ‘Extremes’ have a stickier, race-derived compound. So while they might not be road-legal, they’ll bring the very best on track.

What does this all mean? Basically, you’re looking at supercar-beating lap times (1 minute 45 seconds at Oulton Park).

VISUALS

The Seven shape is iconic. Largely unchanged, but continuously improved. You’ll be pleased to know it’s not something we’ll be drastically changing anytime soon.

Instead, the new 420 CUP exterior gives a subtle nod to its motorsport underpinnings with model-exclusive translucent-satin graphics. At the front is a new nosecone, while the rear features the new Caterham® LED rear lights.

We’ve also had an overhaul on the interior. As standard, the 420 CUP features a satin-carbon 620-style dashboard, Alcantara trim with model-specific stitching on the transmission tunnel and a new variant of the composite seats.

Now, we like to think we know best when it comes to track cars. So your options are limited with this latest variant. Bold move, isn’t it…  Don’t worry; you can still create your perfect personalised Seven with a choice of seats, roll cages and two chassis sizes. Our standard range of colours can be chosen, but our signature menu is still available if you really want something even more bespoke.

AVAILABILITY

By the way, this isn’t a one-off, there is no ‘limited run’. It’s a fully integrated member of the Caterham model range. Due to emission and road laws, the 420 CUP is only available in the UK and the USA.

The car is available to order now through our dealers, with production commencing in early 2023. Prices will start from £54,990 in the UK, and US customers should contact their local retailer for further information. The vehicle is only available as a factory build and cannot be purchased in kit form. Finance is also available.

The 420 CUP will be displayed to the public for the first time at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed on the Caterham stand. You’ll find us near the cricket pitch and joined by representatives from Oakmere, Williams, Krazy Horse, Silverstone and Gatwick.

So there it is, the best track-day Seven we’ve ever built.

Don’t just drive the track. Own it.
