The Company:

Caterham Cars is one of the UK’s most successful sports car manufacturers and have been selling the Seven since 1973. Over the decades Caterham has continued to refine and enhance the design, whilst always respecting the brilliance of Colin Chapman’s original lightweight formula.

This is a unique opportunity to work for an iconic British motor company that is both manufacturer and retailer and a world leader in amateur motorsport racing.

The Role:

The iconic Caterham Seven is powered by a range of different engines from Ford (and Suzuki); all of which require modification from basic replacement of ancillaries to full rebuild to a high-tune specification.  The engine shop, based at the Dartford factory, produces every engine for Caterham production cars, along with engines for the race series including occasional rebuilds.

A very rare opportunity has arisen for a trainee to learn the skills of engine building and preparation from the two senior engine builders with their decades of experience.

No formal experience is required but this role will suit a practical person who has a genuine interest in mechanics and performance cars, and wishes to become a talented engine builder as a profession.

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate:

  • Genuine interest in mechanics / engineering
  • Understanding of the basic principles of a four-stroke petrol engine
  • Aptitude for practical skills
  • An attention to detail

Competitive salary subject to experience and skill level. After a probationary period, there will be a range of benefits such as eligibility to join the Company Pension Scheme, DIS, and staff purchase discounts.
